Grateful to Jayalalithaa for 'coming forward' on Vishwaroopam row: Kamal Haasan - Hindustan Times

Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan thanked Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday while addressing the media in Mumbai for offering a clarification related to his controversy hit film Vishwaroopam.

He said, "Now that chief minister has offered help, why should I go to the

Supreme Court?"

Earlier on Thursday, Jayalalithaa had promised every help to the superstar to overcome all the problems related to his film Vishwaroopam provided he sat down and settled the issue with Muslim leaders amicably.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the chief minister had justified the ban imposed by the government saying that no state government can allow a controversial film to be shown if there is impending largescale violence across the state.

The veteran actor said that he was grateful to his fans and film industry for the kind of support they gave to him during his tussle with the Tamil Nadu government over the release of his film Vishwaroopam.

"I am overwhelmed and touched by the support of the fans," Kamal Haasan said.

Kamal Haasan also clarified that his threat to leave the country was a sudden outburts of emotion.

"I made a threat to leave India because I was hurt and angry," he said.

But he further added that if such an incident happens again, he will be forced to consider self exile.

He also made an appeal to the Tamil Nadu CM to release any protestors who happened to be arrested during the row.

He reassured his fans that there were no such scenes in the film Vishwaroopam that will hurt the emotions of the Muslim community. Haasan said that he has got a huge support from the Muslim community but admitted that there will always be a difference of opinion.

Vishwaroopam was due to release Jan 25, but was banned following objections from certain Muslim groups, who claimed that the film portrayed their community in a bad light.

Other than Tamil Nadu, the film was banned in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
